## In the box

Grinder body · 250 g hopper with lid · single-dose funnel · grounds cup · cleaning brush · this manual.

## First use

1. Wipe the chamber with a dry cloth. Do not rinse it.
2. Fit the hopper: seat it and twist clockwise until it stops.
3. **Season the burrs.** Run **500 g of inexpensive coffee** through at a medium setting before trusting
an espresso dial-in. New burrs cut differently from broken-in ones.
**Do not use rice.** It is harder than coffee and will chip the burr edge.
4. Discard the seasoning grounds.

## Grinding

**Hopper-fed.** Fill the hopper, set the number, run. Simplest for a single daily method.

**Single-dosing.** Remove the hopper, fit the funnel, drop in a weighed dose, run until it stops, then
knock the body once in the last second to clear retention. Preferred if you switch methods.

Set the number **before** adding coffee. Adjusting under load strains the collar.

## Settings

| Clicks | Method |
| --- | --- |
| 1–8 | Espresso |
| 9–12 | Moka pot |
| 12–16 | Aeropress |
| 16–22 | Flat-bottom pour-over |
| 18–24 | Batch drip |
| 28–34 | French press |
| 36–41 | Cold brew |

The steps are not linear: one click is a large move below 12 and a small one above 28. A full setting
reference is in the Tandem EG-1 Grind Setting Reference.

## Calibration

Only if you cannot reach espresso fineness at click 1, or the burrs chirp before click 3.

With the grinder **unplugged and empty**:

1. Remove the hopper.
2. Turn the adjustment collar clockwise slowly until the burrs **just** chirp. Stop immediately.
3. **Back off one click.** That is zero.
4. Lift the numbered ring straight up, rotate it to 0 without moving the collar, and drop it back on.
5. Refit the hopper.

Forcing the burrs together damages both and is not covered by warranty.

## Cleaning

| Interval | Task |
| --- | --- |
| Weekly | Dry-brush the chamber and chute |
| Monthly | Cleaning tablets, then 20 g of coffee to clear residue |
| Every 3 months or 5 kg | Remove the upper burr carrier, brush both burrs, vacuum the chamber |
| Roughly 500 kg | Replace the burr set |

Note your setting before removing the upper burr carrier. Removing it does not lose calibration, but it is
easy to knock the collar.

## Troubleshooting

| Symptom | Cause | Action |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Chirp or scrape at low settings | Burrs touching | Stop. Recalibrate |
| Stalls or hums, will not turn | Foreign object, or oily beans at a fine setting from cold | Unplug, empty, inspect, run empty at 30 |
| Loud rattle | Loose burr carrier | Check the three screws are snug. Do not overtighten — aluminium threads |
| Inconsistent at every setting | Oil caked between burr teeth, or worn burrs | Dry-brush; replace burrs after ~500 kg |
| Runs, nothing comes out | Blocked chute | Clear with the supplied brush, never a metal tool |
| Grounds clump and stick | Static | Not a fault. Add one drop of water to the beans before grinding |

## Warranty summary

warranty.**

Not covered: burr damage from calibrating into contact, foreign-object damage, normal burr wear, water
damage, disassembly beyond this manual, cosmetic damage, and any unit bought second-hand.
